Protein Synthesis is the process that turns DNA into a functioning protein. It goes through three main stages to become a functioning program. The first stage is transcription where DNA becomes MRNA. The second stage turns MRNA into a protein through a process called translation. The final process to make a functionng protein is protein folding where a protein gets turned into a functioning protein.
Concepts
Protein Synthesis : the process of making a functioning protein
Transcription : 1st step in Protein synthesis, turns DNA to MRNA
Translation : 2nd step of protein synthesis, turns MRNA into a protein
Folding : final step of protein synthesis, turns a protein into a functioning protein
DNA : carries the genetic information of the cell; consists of the nucleotides Thymine, Adenine, Cytosine, and Guanine.
Central Dogma : the general flow that describes the making of a functional protein. DNA → RNA → protein
Nucleic Acids : carry genetic information; ex: DNA and RNA.
MRNA : messenger RNA, consisting of the nucleotides Uracil, Adenine, Cytosine, and Guanine.
Amino Acids : the building blocks of a protein.
TRNA : transfer RNA, consisting of the nucleotides Uracil, Adenine, Cytosine, and Guanine.
Nucleotide : the building blocks of nucleic acids.
Polymerase : an enzyme in the cytoplasm that unzips DNA in the transcription phase.
Codon : a group of three nucleotides.

Reflection
This project went very well. The poster turned out amazing eventhough there was some highs and lows for me. The highs for me were that I did a lot of research and learned how Protein Synthesis works. However I feel I could've done more on the poster. A person in our group took the poster home to finish because we didn't finish in class. I think if we had worked more and been more on task during class we could've finished it all together. Overall the project went very well and I learned a lot.
